Our Point of View

There is no shortage of market research today.  Pick a topic in modern information technology and chances are good that not only has research been performed, but the results of that research are available — for free.  There is so much research that some of it seems contradictory and those who seek information may even be bewildered about what to read and what to believe.  Analyst firms compete on the quantity of their research and often a contentious topic like market share becomes a battle of dueling numbers.

What’s lacking in the marketplace today is analysis — the process of extracting meaningful information from the data to synthesize a viewpoint from which vendors and customers can make important decisions from which product to buy to which markets to enter.  Ideally analysis casts a broad net and draws from multiple sources to arrive at conclusions that are sometimes surprising and always revealing.

Like other analyst firms, Beagle Research Group conducts market research but as a small company we cannot ignore other sources.  By bringing together the best data from a variety of places and disciplines we are able to provide our clients with in-depth analysis that does more than forecast the obvious.

For example, since 2000 we have been bullish on the Software as a Service (SaaS) business model.  Other analyst firms were cautious about endorsement and focused on the down side only.  We saw an economic earthquake forming around this disruptive innovation and while we investigated how vendors were addressing customer concerns we also observed, and reported on, the powerful the economic drivers that were turning this quirky invention into a major innovation in software.

The ultimate research for SaaS came from business school research and an understanding of the impacts of globalization which provided deeper insight into the software industry than any research based company research could afford.  We bring this same approach to the market issues that confront software vendors and their customers today.  That’s what sets us apart.
